August
6 , 2011 - Tazewell Speedway opened the gates for another great
regular racing program that also featured a special treat for
kids ages 14 and under. With the help of co-sponsor Home Federal
of New Tazewell, track officials poured 20,000 nickels down
on the high-banked front stretch for the kids to pick up. In
just minutes not a single nickel could be seen. Also driver
Tony Spoon gave away a family four pack of tickets to the Knoxville
Fair to a few lucky kids.
As far as the racing action went the program began with qualifying
and the pole winners in each class were;
Modified
Street- Robbie Buchanan (13.336)
Tazewell Late Model- Jason Trammell (11.683)
Classics- Joe Keck (14.973)
Pure Street- Jason Long (14.765)
Taking
the track to open the feature racing tonight was the Four Cylinder
class with the front row consisting of Allen Holloway and Bubby
Braden. Holloway got the advantage on the start but coming quickly
out of the fourth spot was Kurt Owens. By lap five he was in
second and looking to take over the point. A lap seven restart
put Owens on Holloway's bumper. A wicked lap ten slide job in
turn two gave Owens the point and he drove away to get his first
Tazewell Speedway win of 2011.

The
Classics raced next and Joe Keck led the field to the green
with Phillip Shockley alongside. After one failed start attempt
the drivers got the race underway. Keck motored away with Shockley
and Darris Braden behind him. Jim Yeary was in fourth and Charlie
Tharp rounded out the top five. Shockley by lap nine was in
position to take the lead if Keck bobbled but on lap eleven
Braden experienced trouble in turn four and Yeary moved into
the third spot behind Keck and Shockley. Shockley got around
Keck on the restart with a bit of door to door contact on a
slide job and drove out to a few car lengths before taking the
win. Jim Yeary had a shot at second but just missed on the overtake
bid and finished third just behind Keck.

The
next group of cars to take the track were the Tazewell Late
Models. Jason Trammell led the pack into turn one after taking
the green flag and with Steve Smith in tow the two attacked
the clay. Trammell hit lap traffic around lap five and Smith
tried his best to counter Trammell's line with one of his own
that would let him pass. He got close a couple of times but
could not clear the 90J. A caution slowed the pace on lap seven
and the field lined up behind Trammell for a restart. On lap
fourteen the leader found the back of the pack which allowed
Smith to close in. On lap nineteen the track opened up again
for Trammell allowing him some much needed space but on lap
twenty-four the caution flag flew again this time for a slight
incident in turn two. Trammell once again had the field right
behind him. Anthony Arnwine had moved into third and in fourth
place was Billy Gordon with fifth place belonging to Travis
Fultz. The race laps winded down and Trammell took the win.
It was a good points night for the 90J as Travis Fultz did not
start in his normal machine due to an incident during hot laps.
He did however drive the 11 of Andy Wilder to a 5th place finish.
Smith finished second. Anthony Arnwine had a great run and finished
third. Billy Gordon secured the fourth spot.

The Modified Street class was next and was led to the green
by Robbie Buchanan and Jordon Horton. Petty, Warren McMahan
and Horton were the top three early on and looked to be tied
together by a rope. On lap fifteen the caution flag displayed
for Chris Collinsworth who was having overheating issue and
for Clyde Overholt who also suffered mechanical problems. At
the front Petty, McMahan and Horton were having to hold off
Leonard Bray and Gary Blanken. Blanken got around Bray on lap
eighteen but was tagged and collected an innocent Tony Horton.
Brad Davis was now in fifth place as the race resumed. No one
would keep Buchanan from the checkers tonight not even another
charge from McMahan.

The
final race was the Pure Street class and it was led to the green
by Jason Long and Jonathan Miracle. On the first yellow, it
was near disaster in turn two for several cars in the middle
of the pack but somehow all continued for the restart. On lap
six Jonathan Miracle was tagged and sent into the turn one wall.
The contact with the wall sent the 41 wheels-up then down the
banking. Miracle was unhurt but upset with the contact. On the
restart Long was able to pull away from second place Kevin Smith
and third place Dustin Eldridge and looked to have the field
covered. On lap sixteen the field went under caution one last
time when Tony Spoon's Chevrolet broke in turn two and had to
leave the race. Long went on to grab the checkered flag over
Smith, Eldridge, Jason Whitaker and Gary Harville who completed
the top five.
