THREE TIMES AS NICE FOR TRAMMELL

With five scheduled races remaining, Tazewell Speedway opened its gates for another night of weekly racing action. The kids were excited about another kids night and ready to pick up fifteen thousand nickels courtesy of Tazewell Speedway and Home Federal Bank.

The cars packed the track and began to qualify with the Modified Street division attacking the high banks first. The fastest time of the night belonged to Rick Welch making his first appearance at the Taz this season. His blistering lap only took 13.123 seconds and was a new track record. The Tazewell Classics qualified next with Phillip Shockley grabbing the pole with his lap of 14.333 seconds. The Tazewell Speedway Late Models were third on the track and everyone was chasing Jason Trammell's time of 11.805 seconds. Thirteen others tried to best the time but no one could. Trammell would be the one to lead the pack to the green in tonight's feature race.
The final class to qualify was the Pure Street class and Kevin Smith was the fastest with a lap of 14.405 seconds.

After qualifications were over the Modified Street class opened up the racing action. Rick Welch took the field into turn one and led until an incident involving six race cars brought out a caution. With one lap recorded the top three were Welch, Robbie Buchanon and Brad Davis who slid back to third on the initial start. Every car would restart. On the restart another caution flag would fly when Buchanon lost an engine. Davis moved into second and Clyde Overholt took over third. Welch stayed in front as the laps were counting down to the mid-point. Davis challenged Welch a few times but each time Welch pulled away. The field got another shot at Welch following a caution for the XXX of Josh Chesney who left the track with mechanical issues as well as Brad Davis. Welch had Overholt on his rear bumper with Warren McMahan working his way to the front. With four to go it was looking like Welch would once again be in the Tazewell Speedway victory lane and sure enough he took it all the way to the checkers. McMahan got around Overholt for second but ran out of laps. After the race the fans witnessed a little extra-action as the crews of Richie Carey and Larry Burke had an on track discussion in turn one.

On lap 8 contact with Russell sent Eubanks into the pits with a flat. On the lap 9 restart Shockley had the point with Keck and Russell in pursuit. Eubanks rejoined on lap 13 but was no longer a threat to win. Shockley and Keck finished one-two with Russell grabbing third.

The Tazewell Late Models took to the track for their feature. Pole setter Jason Trammell led the field of great race cars to the green. Trammell went down the front stretch and into the lead with point leader, Travis Fultz in tow. Trammell, Fultz and Greg Estes drove away until lap nine. Mike Rutherford made contact with another machine and was sent tumbling, airborne and on fire he landed after several sumersaults and several rolls. The Claiborne County Rescue Squad was quickly on the spot and put out the fire and got Rutherford out. Thankfully he and those involved were unhurt but the field lost a few cars. Still at the front was Trammell, Fultz, Estes, Phillip Nichols and Keith Chapman. The field reassembled and took the green to resume racing. The top five settled in and Jason Trammell proved to once again be in the stronger ride. Fultz did what he had to do and protected his points lead. Next week both Fultz and Trammell will have a two-hundred dollar bounty. To cash in you must win the race and Fultz or Trammell must be on the lead lap.

A spin in turn two forced a restart with the top three being K. Smith, Steve Smith and miracle. The two Smiths battled up front but Kevin was able to pull away. A debris caution brought the field together to make another attempt at passing K. Smith. As the laps counted away Steve Smith put the pressure on K. Smith and got around on lap 14 to lead. K.
