With
slightly cooler temperatures greeting race fans, Tazewell Speedway
opened its gates for the World of Outlaws dirt late model series
to come in and try to tame its high banks. The fans filled up
the stands and watched as the track crew made final preparations
to the surface in anticipation of the Coca-Cola of Middlesboro
50 lap feature event. After the cars ran in the clay surface
they took to the banks for hot laps and qualifying. Many of
the visiting Outlaws had no idea the speed they were fixing
to feel as they pushed down on the go-pedal.
The Tazewell Classics qualified first with Joe Keck grabbing
another pole with a quick time of 14.548 seconds. Next to hit
the high banks were the Outlaws and Josh Richards had fast time.
The Outlaws then went back into the pits to get ready for the
heats.
Next to qualify were the Modified Street cars with Clyde Overholt
grabbing the top spot with a lap of 13.621 seconds. The Tazewell
Late Models were next and Travis Fultz was the fastest with
a time of 11.895 seconds.
The Outlaws then took to the track for heat race number one
with the top six advancing. Josh Richards led every lap in route
to the first heat win over Shane Clanton. In heat two Vic Hill
got the jump but Mike Marlar gave him all he wanted. Hill got
the heat two win. Rick Rogers drove away to take the heat three
win over a strong Steve Francis.
The first group to race their feature was the Tazewell Speedway
Classics with Joe Keck leading them to the green. Keck drove
away on the start with Wayne Dukes and Robbie Sands in pursuit.
Even after a couple cautions slowed the race down Keck continued
to get the jump on the restarts. The race was red flagged on
lap five when Jim Yeary had to avoid a spin and went high contacting
the outside wall and went for a wild flipping and twisting ride
coming to a rest in the infield on the front of a GMC truck.
Yeary was removed from his ride awake and talking but was taken
to Claiborne Hospital for further checkup. Yeary had his best
run going tonight as he was fighting to enter the top five.
On the restart Keck opened a lead again until a lap fifteen
spin from the second and third place cars created another caution.
On the restart it was Keck, Robbie Sands and Phillip Shockley
the top three. Keck went on to win his third in a row.

The next race was the Outlaws B-Main. Clint Smith looked good
as he kept the field behind him until the checkers fell.
After a short break, the World Of Outlaws were next to race
and they were chasing a ten-thousand dollar pay check. Leading
the Coca-Cola 50 to the green flag was Shane Clanton and Vic
Hill.
Clanton got the jump with Hill second and Steve Francis third.
On lap five the second caution flag flew and bunched the field
up just as Hill was finding his line and challenging Clanton
for the lead. On the restart Clanton at first drove away again
but Hill began looking to pass on lap nine. On lap ten the third
caution flag flew. Josh Richards had made it to the fourth spot
after Rick Rogers fell off the pace. Rogers had something contact
his helmet and a half lap later he was dazed and jumping the
cushion in turn four. He hit the wall at an angle that sent
him rolling over. Brent Robinson was involved as well as Vic
Hill. Hill's night was over. On the lap 20 restart Clanton once
again had to hold off the charge from Francis. Clanton held
the field at bay but had to endure another restart on lap thirty-three
for an incident involving Tim Fuller. Clanton was able to hold
Francis off for the Coca-Cola 50 victory and its ten-thousand
dollar check. Finishing third was Josh Richards. Clanton races
a Rocket chassis. Twenty-four cars started the feature and the
race had a total of eight cautions.

The Modified Streets were next with Clyde Overholt and Robbie
Buchanon leading the field to the green. The race opened with
caution for Jason Long in turn two as Davis went low making
it three wide. After a second and third attempt at a start,
they lined up again to get the race started and when they did
they started without Davis who fell out. Darrell Saylor spun
in turn two after one official lap bringing out another caution
and restart. The top three were Overholt, Buchanon and Allen
Holt. Thirteen cars in the field was now down to seven before
the second lap was completed. Holt and Buchanon got together
in turn four. Holt had the most damage but was able to continue.
The top three now were Overholt, Buchanon and Craig Moore. Tony
Horton and Scottie Atkins touched in turn four and Atkins spun
creating another yellow. The same three restarted out front
but Clyde Overholt remained out front and captured his second
win of the 2010 season. Robbie Buchanon finished second with
Craig Moore behind him in third.

The racing action held longer tonight due to the accidents and
a large car count. The race concluded a little after 1:00 AM.
Most of the standing room only crowd stayed to watch the entire
program. The World of Outlaws are to be congratulated for running
a very good night of action. The series done a super job and
will be making a return trip in the future. Thanks to Coca-Cola
of Middlesboro, KY for making tonight a success.
