Another
muggy evening awaited race fans as they came through the gates
at the Taz Saturday. The track promised to be fast and smooth
as the cars took to the high-banks and began the night's racing
program. During hot laps the cars were indeed fast and the track
very much to the driver's liking. After the hot lap sessions
were over qualifications began with the Modified Street class.
Robbie Buchanon's 13.3 second lap was the fastest. Following
the Modified Street cars were the Classics and Logan Dukes put
his car on the pole position with a 14.158 second lap. Next
were the Tazewell Late Models and Jason Trammell came out first
and set the time for all to beat with a 11.808 second lap. The
lap was fast enough to hold off all challengers and take the
pole for the feature race. The Four-Cylinders were next with
Chuck McMahan grabbing the pole with a lap of 14.594 seconds.
The Classics lined up to race first with Logan and Wayne Dukes
on the front row. Wayne took an early lead but on lap 5 Logan
got around his father to take the point. Phillip Shockley tried
to catch them from third but just could not make up the ground.
A lap 16 caution was what the field needed giving them one more
shot at the Dukes tandem. On the restart Logan held off all
challengers and took the season's first repeat Classics win.
His father Wayne got second and Shockley finished third.

The Modified Street class was next with Robbie Buchanon and
Allen Holt on row one. Holt got into turn one first but Buchanon
took the lead on the second lap. On lap 8 the caution flag was
displayed for Donnie Petty as his machine put fluids down on
the track. The field was restarted with Buchanon, Holt and Larry
Burke the top three. Burke made a run at second as the Hortons,
Tony and Jordon battled for fourth. The Donnie Petty Wrecker
service Monte Carlo was too strong and Buchanon took the impressive
win over last week's winner Allen Holt and Larry Burke ran great
and finished third.

Next were the Tazewell Late Models with friendly rivals Jason
Trammell and Travis Fultz starting on row one. Trammell was
hungry for a win and Fultz was looking to stay ahead in the
points race. The two hammered into turn one with Trammell enjoying
an ever so slight advantage. Fultz fell behind with James England
in third. On lap 2 a caution fell for a Phil Helton spin and
bunched the field up for a restart. By lap 6 Trammell had a
5 car length advantage as Greg Estes was fighting for England's
third spot. On lap 11 Estes got hung behind a lap car while
trying to make the pass and suffered damage ending his night.
Back at the front it was Trammell, Fultz and England the top
three. On lap 13 the top two put on a great side-by-side show
until Fultz cleared the 90J of Trammell. On lap 23 Trammell
took it down low and pulled up to the rear quarter of Fultz.
On lap 27 the caution flag flew again this time for Jay Allen
who had to leave the racing surface. The top three now was Fultz,
Trammell and England. On the restart Fultz took the lead again
but Phillip Nichols had problems and another yellow was displayed
on lap 28. Fultz had to hold off the fast Trammell to get the
win and did just that as he took the win in a great, crowd pleasing
Tazewell Speedway Late Model feature event. After the race had
ended Trammell showed Fultz that he was unhappy with the way
Fultz had passed him and the two cars had to be seperated by
track officials. Fultz pulled into victory lane to the cheers
of the crowd but Trammell had proved to his fans that he was
back.

The Pure Street division hit the track next with Jason Long
and Jonathan miracle on row one. Miracle got the lead but back
in the pack Steve Smith started moving through the field. On
lap 8 Miracle encountered lap traffic but held Long at bay.
A lap 10 caution brought the field together for another wild
restart. Smith began fighting for third as the field restarted
and Miracle opened up his lead at the front. A crash in turn
two between Paul Whitley and Jessie Wilder slowed the pace down
on lap 16. Flagman Bruce Caylor threw the green on another restart
and Miracle kept space between him and Jason Long. One more
yellow had to be thrown and the race restarted once again on
lap 18. Miracle took home another Pure Street win. Long grabbed
second and Mike Daniels third.

Last on the program was the Four-Cylinders with a much better
field of cars. On the front row was Chuck McMahan and Johnny
Coggins. On the start McMahan hooked up and got a lead on the
field but Joey Allen had him in his sights. A caution was displayed
when Coggins spun in turn two. The field restarted with McMahan
leading. Allen unfortunately had to pull off the track and Brad
Pressley moved into second. Last week's winner Bubby Braden
was third. Allen Holloway and Braden went hard after third but
McMahan simply pulled away and took the win over Brad Pressley
and Holloway who finally got around Braden.
