Just over a week after hosting the second largest crowd in the track’s history it was time to get back to weekly Grass Roots Racing at The Bad Fast Tazewell Speedway. Third generation driver Jason Trammell of Knoxville was itching to get back to Victory Lane after going winless since capturing the season opener. Trammell was quickest in time trials with a lap of 11.755 seconds. Thorn Hill’s Brian Shockley recorded the second quickest time with a lap of 12.306 seconds. After the invert draw Trammell would start third in the thirty lap feature. This would place Tazewell’s Clyde Overholt in the pole position with Shockley sharing the front row. After taking the green Shockley, searching for his first career win, would take the lead as the field stormed down the back stretch. Meanwhile Overholt settled into second with Trammell on his back bumper. Throughout the first five laps the top three raced hard under a blanket while searching for the right groove to gain momentum. Just as the leaders crossed the stripe to start lap six Overholt shot down to the low groove to make a move to take the lead from Shockley. At the end of the straight Overholt’s left side tires got into the mud at the bottom of the track which sent him sliding and slamming into the side of Shockley’s car. As the duo we spinning Trammell had to slam on the binders yet couldn’t avoid making contact. All three cars had heavy body damage yet were able to continue. Overholt would be charged with the caution and after diving pitside to check on damage received he would restart on the tail of the field.
With the field reset Shockley set sail hoping to keep Trammell at bay. While Shockley’s car was working well in the middle groove, Trammell would go up top looking for the advantage. On lap seven Trammell shot high in turn yet couldn’t get past Shockley. Two circuits later the same move would work with Trammell taking the lead on the back chute. With seven laps to go Overholt had worked his way back through the field, taking third away from from Mitchell Burke. The rest of the feature was smooth sailing for Trammell as he scored his second win of the season piloting the Vic Hill Racing Engine powered Rocket XR-1 chassis with sponsorship from Trammell Construction, Hatmaker Holdings, R&J Signs, Dents R Us, Hoosier Race Tires South, Brucebilt Performance,XS Batteries, Winchester Welding, R&R Sandblasting and Charlie Brown Signs.

A strong field of Sportsman drivers were on hand with Travis Fultz of Harrogate turning in the quickest qualifying lap of 12.166 seconds. Tazewell’s Jonathan Miracle qualified second with a lap of 12.377 seconds. With Fultz drawing a three for the invert Sneedville’s Jason Sizemore would start on the point of the twenty lap feature alongside Miracle.
Sizemore would seize the lead on the opening lap chased by Miracle, Fultz, sixteen year old Odie Overholt and Steve Smith of Barbourville, KY. While Sizemore was holding the point Miracle and Fultz were racing hard for second. The first caution would fly on the third lap as Overholt spun on his own in turn two. On the restart Fultz turned up the wicked and passed Miracle for second on the next lap. Two laps later Fultz used the low line in turn two to overtake Sizemore on that back stretch. On lap eleven Sizemore would tag the inside wall on the back chute, giving up second and ending his night.
