The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series returns to Tazewell Speedway on Friday, May 5. Tazewell Speedway is just one of two tracks to hold a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series race every year since the series inception in 2005.
Some of dirt late model racing’s top stars will be competing for the $12,000 top prize presented by Toyota of Knoxville, Ted Russell Ford, and Secret City Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. Jonathan Davenport leads the series standings over defending series champion Josh Richards heading into Tazewell Speedway. Track record holder Scott Bloomquist, Earl Pearson Jr., and Bobby Pierce round out the top five in series points.
Defending race winner Jimmy Owens, Tim McCreadie. Don O’Neal, Darrell Lanigan, Kyle Bronson, Hudson O’Neal, Gregg Satterlee, Dennis Erb Jr., and Mason Zeigler are series regulars expected on May 5.
Other regional favorites such as defending track champion Dakotah Knuckles, Shanon Buckingham, Billy Ogle Jr., Casey Roberts, Robby Moses, Brian Smith, Chicky Barton, and more are also expected
Also racing will be sportsman late models for $1,200 to win, classic cars and four cylinders for $700 to win each.
Pit gates open at 2:00 and grandstand gates open at 5:00. The drivers meeting is scheduled for 7:00. Hot laps and time trials will begin at 7:45.
Grandstand tickets are $30 for adults, kids 9 and under are free. Pit passes are $40, kids 12 and under are $30 with a signed minor’s release.
Fans are welcome to bring in lawn chairs for the turn 4 hillside seating areas. Fans are asked not to use lawn chairs in the grandstand area due to the size of the crowd expected for this event.

Tazewell Speedway is located just two miles northwest of Tazewell, Tennessee. Going north on US 25-E, turn right and then left onto Bacchus Rd, and then 1.8 miles north, then .8 miles west and the race track is located on the left.
