Tazewell Speedway will once again host the final race for the Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals on Saturday, August 1. This year’s race, presented by West Chevrolet, will pay $10,050 to win as part of Tazewell Speedway’s 50th anniversary season. It is the biggest purse to be offered for the Southern Nationals.
This year’s Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals has proven to be a tight battle for the series championship following the first week of the 10-race schedule. Knoxville’s Billy Ogle Jr. won on the first night of the series and is in the middle of the championship fight. Donald McIntosh, driving for Maryville’s Blount Motorsports team, won on the second night and is also in the title mix. Casey Roberts won the third race and should be part of the title fight heading into Tazewell Speedway. Other series regulars are Austin Smith, Vic Hill, Craig Vosbergen of Australia, Mark Dotson, and Stacy Boles.
Those drivers will take on some of the region’s and area’s top drivers contending for the $10,050 to prize.
The Schaffer Oil Southern Nationals has been designated as the 50th anniversary race. To commemorate the occasion, a number of former and present drivers and employees will be recognized for their years of support for Tazewell Speedway.
Also racing on Saturday will be sportsman for $800 to win, super stocks for $700 to win, classics, and four cylinders. The Tazewell Late Models will not be racing.
General admission tickets are $25 for adults with kids 9 and under admitted free with a paying adult. Pit passes are $35. Pit gates open at 3:00 and grandstand gates open at 4:00. Racing will start at 7:45.
