Tazewell Speedway will play host to the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals finale for the 19th year in a row on Saturday, July 29. The Ray Varner 53 will pay $10,053 to the winner and one driver will win the series championship.
The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals has seen some big names in dirt late model racing vying for the 2023 championship. Jimmy Owens has maintained a slight lead over two-time Spring Nationals champion Carson Ferguson. Ricky Weiss, Donald McIntosh, Mike Bededum, Jordan Koehler, Brenden Smith. Kenny Collins, John Llewellyn, and Tyler Clem have competed in all series races heading into the final week. Those drivers along with Dale McDowell, Dakotah Knuckles, Vic Hill, David Payne, Jason Trammell, Jensen Ford, and Austin Neely are some of the drivers expected.
Also racing on Saturday will be sportsman for $800 to win, classic cars for $600 to win, street stocks for $600 to win.
General admission tickets are $25 for adults with kids 9 and under admitted free with a paying adult. Pit passes are $40 for adults, kids 12 and under are $30. Pit gates open at 4:00 and grandstand gates open at 5:00. The drivers meeting is scheduled for 7:00, Racing will start at 7:45.
Fans are welcome to bring in lawn chairs for the turn 4 hillside seating areas. Fans are asked not to use lawn chairs in the grandstand area due to the size of the crowd expected for this event.
There will be no personal ATV vehicles allowed in the pit area which includes 4-wheelers, side-by-sides, and golf carts. No personal vehicles allowed in the pits except for those going to handicap parking, which is limited. Limited camping spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis for $20 a night.
