27, 2014 - Perfect racing weather greeted drivers and fans alike on Saturday night
for the last points race of the 2014 at Tazewell Speedway. We also honored former
track steward and fellow racer Buster Cupp with the Pure Street feature paying
$500 to win. While most of the points leaders had the championship wrapped up,
the Classic Car points battle came down to the very last lap of their feature.
Our points champions will be awarded on Championship Night on October 11th.
The first feature of the evening was the fifteen lap 4 Cylinder feature. Former
track champion Bubby Braden of Luttrel drew the pole position lining up alongside
Cosby's Joey Allen. With the drop of the green Allen jumped into the lead trailed
by Braden, Chris Reichert and Rufus Collett. By lap four Kurt Owens, who started
ninth, had worked his way up to fourth. Up front Allen distanced himself from
the field leading every lap for his second win of the season in the Allen's Railroad
Contracting, Norton's Body Shop, New Vision Graphics Ford Mustang. Mark Wallace
rallied from his eighth starting spot to finish second. Even after sitting out
last night's feature while waiting for his engine to be rebuilt Chuck McMahan
earned enough points this season to win the championship.

Josh Fields of Tazewell set quick time among fifteen Sportsman entries with a
lap of 12.330 seconds and drew the pole for the twenty lap feature starting alongside
Steve Carr of Rogersville. Carr would use the outside line to jump into the lead
followed by Fields, Clyde Overholt, and Taylor Coffman. Overholt would dive pitside
on lap three with a flat tire yet would work his way back through the field to
finish fourth. Carr would lead every lap of the feature for his first win of the
season in the Spider Race Engines, Odello Industries, Holston Auto Parts, Hopson
Racing & Fabrication Special. Taylor Coffman of Bean Station, in only his
eighth start of the season, finished a career best third. Jordon Horton of Sneedville
secured the Sportsman points championship even after sitting out last night's
action.

A stout field of Tazewell Late Models were on hand with Dakotah Knuckles of Ewing,
VA setting fast time in qualifying with a lap of 12.111 seconds. Knuckles would
draw the two in the invert draw giving fellow Virginia driver Greg Estes the pole
starting spot. Estes took the early lead with Knuckles, Josh Henry and Jason Trammell
giving chase. Knuckles would slip up in turn two on the second lap allowing Henry
and Trammell to pass by. Henry's night would come to an end on lap four as he
slammed the outside wall in turn one. This moved Trammell, who started sixth,
up into second. By lap seven Trammell was on the back bumper on Estes. After trying
the low line in turn four Trammell switched to the high side in turn one to take
the lead from Estes on lap nine. Trammell would hold on for his fourth win of
the season in the Fast Lane Signs & Graphics, Trammell Construction, Quality
Medical Center, Tornado Alley Car Wash, Merle 97 FM sponsored Rayburn Race Car
with power from a Vic Hill Racing Engine. Even after dropping out early in the
feature Josh Henry earned enough points to win his first Tazewell Late Model points
championship.

Justin Overton of Middlesboro came into last night's action leading Corryton's
Joel Wolfenbarger by only two markers in the Classic Car points chase. Phillip
Thompson of Knoxville set fast time and draw the pole position for the twenty
lap feature. Thompson and Wolfenbarger would race side by side on the opening
circuit with Thompson slipping into the lead on lap two. Thompson would lead every
lap for his seventh win of the season in the Eagle Race Engines powered, Skyline
Transportation, Filmax Filtration, Logistics Detailers sponosred Classic Car sedan.
The final points tally had Overton and Wolfenbarger tied for first yet with one
win on the season Wolfenbarger earned his first championship on only his second
year of competition.

The final feature of the evening was the twenty-eight lap Buster Cupp Memorial
for the Pure Street division paying $500 to win. Kevin Smith of Barbourville,
Ky set fast time among nine entries in qualifying and drew the outside front row
spot alongside Jason Long of Morristown. Smith would dominate the feature and
after a postrace protest was deemed legal. This would be Smith's fourth win of
the year. Points leader Jonathan Miracle survived a midrace collision with a spinning
Hayston Collett, rally back to finish second and claim the points championship.

This Saturday night October 4th will be the annual Fall Brawl at Tazewell Speedway.
Limited Late Models will battle for $2000 to win. Sportsman and Modified Street
will be racing for $1000 to win in their features. Classic Cars, 4 Cylinders and
Pure Street will duke it out for $300 in their respective divisions.
