TRAMMELL BAGS THE WIN

August 22, 2014 - Tazewell Speedway hosted a special Friday night edition of racing at the Gary Hall owned facility tucked away in the hills of Claiborne County. Tazewell Late Models were on showcase as drivers from all over the region battlled for $2000 to win.

Cory Hedgecock of Loudon was quickest among seventeen cars in qualifying with a lap of 11.669 seconds. Hedgecock would share the front row of the thirty lap feature with Jason Trammell of Knoxville. With the drop of the green Hedgecock would take the lead going into turn one. Matthew Holt of Thorn Hill brought out the first caution on the first lap as he crossed up on the back strecth collecting Greg Estes of Jonesville, VA. Estes would go pitside with right side damage to his car. On the restart Trammell nudged alongside Hedgecock taking the lead as they duo came out of turn two. Hedgeock dove to the inside of turn three retaking the lead as the crowd rose to their feet. Steve Smith of Powell brought the yellow flag out on lap eighteen as he slowed coming down the front stretch. On the ensuing restart Trammell stole the lead away and on the next lap Hedgecock dropped out with a broken shock. Dakotah Knuckles of Ewing, VA, who started eighth took third away from Ross White of Karns on lap twenty. Greg Estes rallied through the pack to finish fifth. Up front it was Jason Trammell collecting the $2000 in the Fast Lane Signs & Graphics, Trammell Construction, Quality Medical Center, Tornado Alley Car Wash sponsored Rayburn Race Car with power from a Vic Hill Racing Engine.

Josh Fields of Tazewell came into Friday night looking to cotinue his hot strak in Sportsman competition winning the last two event and setting a new qualifying record three weeks ago. Fields would set quick time among fifteen entries with a lap of 12.220 seconds and earn the pole for the feature after the invert draw. Josh Chesney of Maynardville qualified second and lined up beside Fields on the front row of the feature. Fields jumped into the early lead trailed by Chesney, Clyde Overholt, Anthony Burchett and Warren McMahan. After leading every lap it looked that Fields had nabbed his sixth win of the season yet after a post race inspection he was found to have illegal brake rotors on his car and was disqualified. Josh Chesney was awarded the win in the M&E Boat Services, Wallace Auto Sales, Eat at Slicks sponsored Rayburn Race Car for his first Sportsman win of the year.

Eli Keck of Corryton scored his first Classic Car win of the season leading every lap of the feature in the Hot Rod's Paint and Body, Inskip Barber Shop, Maynardville Muffler Classic Car. His teammate Richie Overholser would finish second.

Jonathan Miracle of Tazewell returned to Victory Lane after leading every lap of the Pure Street feature in the Dennis Whitaker Motorsports, Noah's Wholesale, Overholt Racing and Fabrication Dodge Ram pickup.

Danny Pennington of Pennington Gap, VA was looking to collect his first 4 Cylinder win at The Taz as he took the early lead in the feature. Pennington would battle early with Chad Manning of Newport. The two would make contact on lap five then moments later Pennington would get tangled up with Kurt Owens of Newport who retired from the feature with damage. Pennington would go to the tail of the field. Manning would take over the lead and score his first win of the season.

Our next race will be on Sunday August 31 as we welcome back the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series for the 6th annual Buddy Rogers Memorial. Drivers from all over the Southeast will be on hand competing for $4,400 to win in the forty-four lap feature.
