August
16, 2014 - Saturday night proved to be very lucky if your name
happened to be Steve Smith as the two drivers from totally different
divisions found their way back to Victory Lane and an up and
coming driver proved he is a force to be reckoned with.
Eight Tazewell Late Models signed in with last week's winner
Bryan Hendrix of Knoxville turning quick time with a lap of
12.149 seconds. Points leader Josh Henry of Newport was absent
from competition as he waiting on the arrival of his first child.
Fan favorite Jason Trammell was also a no-show as his car suffered
heavy damage from a race on Friday night.
Hendrix would draw the outside pole after the invert draw which
put Steve Smith of Powell in the pole position. Between the
two they have well over 40 years of turning laps on the clay
dirt battlegrounds in east Tennessee. At the drop of the green
Smith used the low line to slip ahead of Hendrix for the lead.
Josh Collins of Tazewell would slow the action on lap ten with
a flat tire. Hendrix would peek down low several times in the
turns looking for an opening to take the lead away from Smith.
After all was said and done Smith led every lap for his second
win of the season in the Ciderville Music sponsored Phantom
Race Engine powered Rayburn Race Car.

After starting his racing career in the 4 Cylinder divison several
years ago Josh Fields of Tazewell purchased a Sportsman car
last season and scored his first victory earlier this season.
Fields would set fast time in qualifying yet after coming up
ten pounds light at the scales was relegated to the seventh
starting spot for the feature. Wade Howerton of Tazewell would
share the front row of the feature with Clyde Overholt who took
the early lead. As Overholt and Howerton were jousting for the
lead Fields was sneaking his way to the front. Fields would
take second away from Howerton on lap eleven. Two circuits later
he would slip to the inside of Overholt on the back stretch
and take the lead going into turn three. From there it was a
smooth sailing as Fields notched his fifth win of the season
in the Debbie Fields-The Realty Group, Barren Creek Beef Jerky,
