JACOBSEN SURVIVES FOR SOUTHERN NATIONALS WIN,
MADDEN CLINCHES 5TH CHAMPIONSHIP

August 2, 2014 - Eric Jacobsen took the lead on lap thirty from Brad Neat and held on to claim his second-career Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Series event victory Saturday Night at Tazewell Speedway. In an attrition field race that started with twenty-two cars only four would complete every lap. Chris Madden of Gray Court, SC lead till the twenty-third lap when he fell pitside with a flat tire giving the lead over to Brad Neat of Dunville, KY. Madden would rejoin the field in the twelwth spot. Neat would lead until a caution on lap twenty-nine for Craig Vosbergen of Perth, Australia. On the ensuing restart Jacobsen pounced to the low side in turn one taking the lead away from Neat. Using the high side Neat mounted a challenge on Jacobsen until contact with outside wall in turn one would end his quest for the win.

The Rio Del Mar, CA driver became the eighth different winner on the tour and pocked $5,300 for the victory while driving the Soil Fume, Inc. and Penske Shocks sponsored, Roush Yates-powered Rocket Chassis. This was also the track that Jacobsen claimed his first-career Super Late Model start which was May of 2011.
In post-race celebrations, Chris Madden of Gray Court, SC claimed his fifth career series championship since 2007. Madden finished thirty-one points ahead of Eric Jacobsen in the title chase. Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, TN finished third in the series point totals and since he won the Old Man's Garage Spring Nationals title, it made him the Overall Champion of the two tours picking up points fund monies from that as well. Austin Smith of Cedartown, GA was named the AR Bodies Rookie of the Year driver as he finished just two markers ahead of Craig Vosbergen from Perth, Australia in the final tally.

As the excitement from the Super Late Model feaature wound down the Sportsman hit the track for their feature. Clyde Overholt of Tazewell earned quick time honors with a lap of 12.282 seconds and get the pole position after the invert draw. At the drop of the green Josh Fields of Tazewell quickly jumped into the lead trailed by Overholt, Steve Carr, Anthony Burchett and Jordon Horton. Up front Fields distanced himself from the pack leading every lap and scoring his third win in a row. Fields' Hendren Race Engine powered CVR Race Car gets sponsorship from Debbie Fields-The Realty Group, Barren Creek Beef Jerky, The Boot Barn, West Haven Speed Equipment, United Capital Lending and The Boot Barn.

In Classic Car action Logan Dukes of Knoxville was the fastest qualifier among nine entries. Cameron Skinner of Corryton would earn the pole position after the invert draw lining up beside Dukes on the front row of the feature. Dukes muscled his way into the lead after taking the green closely followed by Justin Overton of MIddlesbror, KY. Skinner's night would end as he tagged the outside wall on the back stretch causing right front suspension damage. Meanwhile Overton was putting pressure on Dukes for the lead yet his quest was ended as he dropped out on lap six. Josh Chesney battled side by side with Richie Overholser of the second spot with Chesney taking over on lap sixteen. In the end it was Dukes capturing his second win of the season in the Carway Auto Sales, Jim Ford Automotive, Koontz Plumbing & Mechanical, Shields Electronics, AFCO Racing Products sponsored Classic Car coupe.

Kevin Smith of Barbourville, KY led every lap of the Pure Street feature after battling early with points leader Jonathan Miracle of Tazewell.

Chuck McMahan continued his dominance of the 4 Cylinder division inheriting the lead on lap ten for his tenth win of the year Round Boy Motorsports, FBR, Lowes Auto Parts Ford Mustang. Kurt Owens of Newport, who started third, took the early lead and was crusing for the win until a loose battery terminal dropped him out of contention on lap ten.
