HORTON, DAVIS TAKE MODIFIED MADNESS WINS,
COLLINS GETS FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

April 26, 2014 - The always popular Tazewell Speedway Modified Street division was on showcase Saturday night with twin features and double points uo for grabs in the Modified Madness. Robbie Buchanan would earn the pole for the first feature with a qualifying lap of 13.514 seconds sharing the front row with Tony Horton. At the drop of the green it was a four way battle for the lead between Buchanan, Horton, Brad Davis and Dakotah Knuckles. Horton would win the battle and take the top spot. Before the second lap was completed Buchanan would bring out the caution. During the caution Davis would go pitside with a flat tire and rejoin the field. Knuckles would inherit second and put pressure on Horton on the restart. By lap five Horton would pull away from Knuckles and lead every lap to score his third feature win of the year in the Discount Parts City Auto Parts, Bobby’s Used Honda, Gordon Construction, and Visual Designs by Brian sponsored Chevy Monte Carlo.

Brad Davis, in only his second appearance this season, would draw the pole for the second fourteen lap feature. Davis would shove his way into the lead on lap one as Horton and Knuckles battled for the second spot. Horton would drop out of contention on lap seven leaving Knuckles to fend off Gary Bkanken for second. Up front it was Davis leading every lap and winning his first feature of the year in the Andrews Construction, Jeffers Exterminating, Superior Construction, Tires Etc, Old Town Grill, Southern Outdoors, Phantom Race Engine powered Rainmaker Race Car.

Fourteen Tazewell Late Models were on hand with Greg Estes of Jonesville, VA earning the pole along Powell's Josh Collins who was making his first Tazewell Speedway start of the season. As the field stormed out of turn four to take the green Estes' car would not get up to speed. As the field behind him took evasive action and charged down the front stretch, the car of Anthony Arwine would get turned sideways and get t-boned in the left side by Brian Shockley. Both drivers retired with heavy damage. Also caught up in the melee was Jason Trammell who also retired with damage. With the track cleared and the field ready for another attempt at a clean start, Estes' car would once again have trouble coming up to speed. This time Estes would go pitside ending his night. Trevor Sise of Knoxville would move up into the pole position alongside Collins. With a clean start Collins would take the pole closely followed by Sise. Behind them Steve Smiith and Josh Henry battled for the third spot. Collins would extend the lead early yet Sise found the right groove and caught back up by lap eighteen. In the end Collins would hold off Sise for his first win of the season in the Doug Gregory Motorsports, O'Reilly Auto Parts and Outlaw Graphics sponsored Trakstar Race Car powered by a B&B Race Engine.

Clyde Overholt would earn the pole for the Sportsman feature with a lap of 12.516 seconds and drawing the one on the invert. Steve Carr would line up beside overholt for the feature. As the field. Before a lap could be completed Carr would go pitside after losing a driveshaft. This would move Keith Chapman up to the front row with Overholt. Using the outside lane to his advantage Chapman would jump into the lead trailed by Overholt, Josh Fields, Anthony Burchett and Jordon Horton. Before the first lap was completed Horton shoved his way into fourth and took the third spot away from Fields on the second lap. Brian Howerton would slow the field on lap eleven as he spun on the back stretch. On the restart Burchett would pass Fields for fourth. On lap sixteen Horton would pull alongside Overholt and take over the spot on the next lap. With the laps winding down Horton wasn't able to reel in Chapman who scored his first win of the season in the Trammell Construction, Fast Lane Signs and Graphics, Quality Medical, Tornado Alley Car Wash, Warrior Race Car Studebaker SS.

Justin Overton and Richie Overholser would share the front row of the Classic Car feature after fast qualifier Eli Keck drew a three in the invert draw. Overton took the early lead followed by Overholser, Keck, Joel Wolfenbarger, and Phillip Thompson. On lap three Wolfenbarger slipped by Overholser for second and flexed his muscle by taking the lead away from Overton on lap six. Meanwhile Matt Tharp, who started sixth, had moved his way through the field and into second by lap nine. Behind him a three way battle ensued between Thompson, Overton and Keck for the third position. Up front Wolfenbarger was pulling away until lap twelve when Tharp began to close the gap using the high side groove. As the duo entered turn two on lap fourteen Wolfenbarger had to back off to avoid a lap car allowing Tharp to slip by for the lead. Wolenbarger would fade back and finish fourth. Tharp would lead the remaing laps for the win in the Autism Awareness, Loving Hands Pet Care, Red Eyes Racing Classic Car.

Jonathan Miracle picked up his third win of the season leading every lap of the Pure Street feature in the Dennis Whitaker Motorsports Dodge Ram truck.
