Mike
Weeks of Friendsville came into Saturday night's action looking
for his first feature win of the 2009 season. The two-time Atomic
Motor Speedway Super Late Model Champion notched his first Tazewell
Speedway victory on October 4th of last year. Since then he
has been a regular at The Taz starting off the season driving
for Peg Leg Motorsports only to part ways two months ago. Weeks
would turn fast time and lead every lap of the Super Late Model
feature in the 321 Storage, Dyer Machine & Fab, Matlock
Wraps sponsored Trak-Star Grand Prix powered by a B&B Performance
Racing Engine and riding on American Race Tires. In Victory
Lane Mike dedicated the win to James Vanover, a longtime East
Tennessee racer and car owner who passed away suddenly on Saturday
morning. Vanover was best known for fielding cars for Billy
Ogle Jr. who won several track championships and dozens of races
in his 20 year tenure with Vanover.

Arguably
one the best racing divisions in the region, the Modified Street
feature didn't fail to excite the fans. Robbie Buchanan, making
his first start of the season driving the car owned by Wayne
Overholt, set fast time and started the feature alongside Greg
Estes. Estes would mount a challenge for the lead only to drop
pitside on lap five along with Clyde Overholt who was running
fourth. Chris Collinsworth would move up into second followed
closely by Warren McMahan, who was winless since April. McMahan
would slip by on the outside of Collinsworth on lap eleven and
start tracking down Buchanan. On lap fourteen Buchanan slowed
with engine woes giving the lead over to McMahan who lead the
rest of the way for his second win of the season in the Jabo's
Pharmacy, Dandridge Service Station, Supreme Towing sponosred
Monte Carlo.

No
doubt the wildes action of the night came in the Pure Street
feature. Jason Long and Steve Smith shared the front row and
battled hard for the first circuits. Smith tried the low line
several times to try and sneak by Long. On lap eight just as
Smith pulled along Long in turn three, the two would make contact
sending both into the outside wall. The collision left the track
blocked with four others car getting involved in the crash.
Long and Smith's night were over with and once the track was
cleared Kevin Smith would inherit the lead followed by Aaron
Guinn and Charlie Davidson. Guinn would start putting pressure
on Smith for the lead and on lap twelve they would get togther
coming out of turn four sending both cars spinning down the
front chute. Track officials would send the duo to the end of
the lead lap giving the lead over to Michael Daniels. By lap
seventeen Kevin Smith would climb back into second with Guinn
close behind. Smith and Daniels would wreck on the following
lap with officials deeming both were at fault sending them to
the rear of the field. This would turn the lead over to Aaron
Guinn who held on for his first career victory in the United
Realty, Morristown Towing and Recovery sponsored Monte Carlo.
