2024 Tazewell Speedway Crate Late Model Division Rules


1. All cars are subject to inspection by TAZEWELL Speedway at any time during the event.

2. TAZEWELL Speedway reserves the right to confiscate any illegal components, or components that are suspicious and in need or further inspection.

3. TAZEWELL Speedway reserves the right to alter or amend these rules at any time in the interest of fair competition.

4. Chevrolet Performance Crate Engine Part #88958604/19318604 Weight #2300. 25 lb. weight break for HANS device.

5. 604 Engines are sealed at the intake, heads, timing cover, and oil pan. GM seals will be permitted, Crate USA seals permitted (green, black, Blue), Rush Seals permitted, American Crate Allstar permitted. Other seals may be permitted with Tazewell Speedway approval.

6. All Crate Engines must remain Stock as they came sealed from the factory. They must not be Altered, Modified or changed from Factory Specs. All engines will be checked by the Latest GM Tech Manual. Any other reference material may be used.

7. No changes are allowed to the engine - including but not limited to Intake Manifold, Heads, Valve Covers, Front Cover, Oil Pan, Harmonic Balancer, or any other part or parts on or in the Engine

8. Engine's GM Serial Number, and when applicable, Crate USA build certification number must be clearly visible.

9. Anyone found in violation of Engine Rules and/or Factory Specs outside the sealing bolts of the engine will result in the Driver and/or Owner being Disqualified for that Event and can be penalized further by Tazewell Speedway officials.

10. No Vacuum Pumps.

11. Any 4 Barrell Carb, must be Needle, Seat and Accelerator Pump Style.

12. Engine must be Naturally Aspirated.

13. May use one 1 inch, One Piece, Carb Spacer (.040 Tolerance Maximum) with Two Standard Gaskets (Maximum 0.070 Inch Thick) One Gasket Between Intake To Spacer And One Gasket Between Spacer To Carb. At No Point May Spacer Extend Into Intake Manifold Area.

14. Any Electronic Distributor Type Ignition System. NO CRANK TRIGGER,DISTRIBUTORLESS MULTI-COIL, OR MAGNETO IGNITION SYSTEM.

15. No Electronic Traction Control Devices.

16. All Cars must have a working Starter.

17. Cast or Aluminum Water Pump. Stock Mounted Water Pump and Fans Only. No Electric Fans. No Electric Water Pump.

18. Collector Type Headers Required. Must have four (4) tubes into on (1) Collector of a consistent diameter. NO TRI Y HEADERS. NO 180 DEGREE HEADERS NO MERGED HEADERS. NO SQUARE TUBE HEADERS.

19. An Approved Fuel Cell (32 Gallon Max) Must be securely mounted in the Trunk area of the car, inside a .20 gauge metal box supported by a minimum of Two 2? By 1/8? Steel Straps. All Fuel Cells must be completely Visible from rear of car.

20. Racing Gas or E85 Allowed. Fuels must have a specific gravity of LESS than (Gas .745 / E85 .786 Anything over will be Disqualified. NO NITROUS OXIDE. NO PROPYLENE OXIDE. NO NITROETHANE. NO MTBE.

21. Fuel Pump must be Mechanical, Cam Driven, or Belt Driven. NO ELECTRIC Fuel Pumps.

22. Power steering pump may be mounted on the front of motor or on reverse mount.

23. Engine Setback will be 6? from Center of Top Ball Joint to The #1 Spark Plug with a 1 " Tolerance.

24. Lucas Oil Body Rules.

25. 8 " Spoiler and Sides Only.

26. All Frames must be of steel construction.

27. Square or Rectangular Frame must be a minimum of 2? BY 2? Material .083 Wall Thickness.

28. Round Tube Frame must have a minimum of 1 1/2"" Outside Diameter, .083 Wall Thickness.

29. Standard Late Model Suspensions Only. NO SPRING LOADED OR SHOCK TYPE 4 BAR RODS. ONLY STANDARD SOLID BAR 4 BAR RODS. NO TORSION BAR FRONT OR REAR SUSPENSION. Sway Bar Ok.

30. Standard one piece Bird Cages. NO SPLIT BIRD CAGES.

31. Standard late Model Suspensions equals (1) Shock per Wheel, except on Left Rear. Left Rear is Allowed (2) Shocks One in Front of Rearend and One behind. Shocks must be mounted Vertical to Axle Tube.

32. Chassis Brackets Must Be Fixed. No Movement.

33. Shocks, At Any Position on The Race Car, Including Lift Bar or Torque Arm Shocks Must Be Constructed Of Magnetic Steel or Aluminum. No Thru Rod Style Shocks Allowed. No Remote Adjusting Type Shocks. No Inerter or J-Damper of any type Allowed.

34. Minimum Wheelbase 103."

35. All cars must have a suitable steel roll cage protecting the driver's compartment, including headrest.

36. Any Transmission (must have one forward and one reverse gear in working order) NO STRAIGHT DRIVES OR IN AND OUT BOXES.

37. Driveshafts must be painted white. Carbon Fiber are Allowed.

38. Steel Brake Rotors Only NO CARBON FIBER. NO TITANIUM OR OTHER EXOTIC MATERIAL BRAKE SYSTEMS.

39. Any brand or type of wheel allowed. Must be mounted with lug nuts. Maximum Wheel width 14?. NO KNOCK OFF OR CENTER LOCK WHEELS.

40. Tires: Front Open

Right Rear Hoosier 55, #4 or American Racer SPEC 56 (RR must durometer 56 before qualifying and feature)

Left Rear Hoosier 21, 55, #3, or American Racer SPEC 48 or 56

Sipping and Grooving Allowed.

No Grinding of numbers or compound, Any Tire that has been altered will be illegal and confiscated.

Tires can be checked with a durometer, no chemical treating of tires allowed. All tires subject to sampling at any time.

**Tire rules may be modified by officials in the spirit of competition, supply chain issues, or manufacturer changes.


Crate Protest Rules:
$600 Pull Head/top end. $150 going to Tazewell Speedway
$1300 Complete Tear Down
$1000 Going to the winner of the protest. $300 Going to Tazewell Speedway
*604 will be teched as it came from GM, and Crate Racin USA specs
*Tire Protest $150, Fuel Protest $150
*If a driver/owner refuses tear down they will not be permitted to compete in the next 5 events at Tazewell Speedway. The driver/owner loses right to protest for remainder of season (other penalties my apply at track discretion)
*If a driver/owner is protested and the engine is found illegal, a $500 fine must be paid prior to competing in another Tazewell Speedway race. Forfeit any season point totals. (other penalties may apply at tracks discretion).
